Joseph
C. Gathe, Jr., M.D., received his medical degree with
honors from Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas
in 1981. He completed his internship and residency at
Baylor College of Medicine, St. Luke's Affiliated Hospital,
Houston, Texas, where he was also Chief Resident. Culminating
in Board Certification in Infectious Diseases. He is
also a fellow in the Infectious Diseases Society of
America. During this time he received the Alpha Omega
Honor Society Henri J. Kaiser Merit Scholar Award and
the Henry O. McIntosh Award for Outstanding Resident
in Internal Medicine. Dr. Gathe completed a fellowship
in Infectious Diseases at Baylor College of Medicine,
and the Methodist Hospital. Dr. Gathe is a diplomat
of the American Board of Internal Medicine, and a fellow
in the American College of Physicians.
Dr.
Gathe is a clinical instructor, Department of internal
medicine, Baylor College of Medicine. He is president
of Therapeutic Concepts, P.A. and also serves as president
of Donald R. Watkins Memorial Foundation, a non-profit
organization providing primary healthcare to indigent
persons. He serves as Chief of Infectious Diseases at
Park Plaza Hospital.
Dr.
Gathe has been Principal or Co-Investigator for over
83 protocols focused on improving the status of persons
living with HIV. He has published extensively on these
topics in such professional journals as AIDS, The Journal
of Infectious Diseases, Annals of Internal Medicine,
Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes Diseases
and American Journal of Medicine. Adding in poster and
oral presentations at national and international conferences.
Dr. Gathe has authored or co-authored 68 publications
in many different peer review articles.
Dr.
Gathe is a member of many medical and scientific societies
and was recognized by the African-American Health Care
Trailblazers Hall of Fame in both 1998 and 1999.
